Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year. I am glad to be working with all my new and returning art students. Already students are creating great works of art! I have been teaching at the elementary for 2 years, but I am teaching 7-12th grades this year as well.
Elementary
Grades- In the art room every student in K-2 will receive an S- Satisfactory or U- unsatisfactory. In order to get an S, students must participate in the project we are creating. The enjoyment of the art creating process is more important to me, then the final outcome, so the letter they receive in my class will only reflect their effort.
Grades 3-6 will receive a letter grade A-F and percentage 0-100%. Again this grade is reflected only by effort, following directions, and completeness. I do not grade on ability.
Homework Policy- In art we will not have graded homework; however, your child may take projects home to work on, if they did not finish in the allotted time.
Late Work Policy- Since I only meet with your child once a week, attendance is very important, that being said I understand absences will occur. There is not a lot of time in class to do make up projects, so I will provide a few catch up art classes each semester. The missed project may be made up at this time.
Curriculum: The Omaha Art program enriches the entire curriculum in so many ways and has four components that create a quality program. They are: Aesthetic Perception, Art Criticism, Art History and Culture, and Art Production and Creative Expression. These four components will be a part of art class and will provide a strong connection to curriculum integration. At each grade level student will:
- practice problem solving and critical thinking.
-learn about history and culture through art.
-learn to more effectively use their senses to explore the world.
- use both verbal and nonverbal methods to express abstract ideas and emotions.
- learn to trust their creative intelligence.
-learn concepts and techniques that will give them control of the visual images they produce.
-learn to identify aesthetic qualities in a variety of artwork and in the environment.
-learn the language of visual art so that they have a precise vocabulary in which to express their ideas.
Art education is for all students. It provides learning opportunities for the artistically talented, as well as for students who may never produce art outside the classroom. In whichever category your child is in, art class will be a learning, encouraging and enriching part of your child’s day. Please call me if you have any question at 870-426-3366 or email at [email protected]. I am looking forward to a great year.
Thank you so much for your support,
